The Chuck Wagon Experience

Chuck Wagon Experience

Throughout the course of the summer Schreiner University, and its Communication Design department, have been hosting the Western Art Academy on campus. Students from both Houston, and San Antonio, have come to sharpen their artistic skills in two mediums: painting and sculpting. Throughout the course of their learning the students are given great first-hand opportunities to experience a little of what life was like in the Old West.

This week, the students got to see what it would have been like to live on a chuck wagon on the cattle trails. The chuck wagon cowboys cooked them an old Dutch oven style peach cobbler, performed some old western tunes, and introduced them to their steed, Mr T. It was a great experience that really engaged the students’ senses and let them see from a different perspective so that they may carry it with them as they continue their work.

Next week the students will be visited by a few mountain men who will teach them a little about life in the mountain wilderness, and how to throw a tomahawk!
